The MANGROVEGALLERY hosted a solo exhibition of its represented artist, Wu Li, from January 9th to March 6th, 2021, featuring a new series of works on paper. Wu Li stands as one of the most prominent figures in contemporary Chinese painting in recent years. His subjects typically encompass the mundane yet profound entities surrounding him – trees laden with fruit, lush wild grasses, contorted human forms, and the innate desire for freedom combating all forms of restraint, bestowing upon life a state unconfined by physical form. The artist’s fervent and sincere love for painting evolves through prolonged observation, contemplation, and dialogue with the medium, culminating in a painting language that is both heartfelt and impassioned, steadfast and potent.
