MANGROVEGALLERY is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition of represented artist Nevin Aladağ in China, featuring her works in various forms including sculpture, collage and installation. The exhibition is open from 6th November to 26th December 2020.

Born in 1972 in Van, Turkey, Nevin Aladağ studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts of Munich and is currently a professor at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden. In 2020 she had her major solo exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Hayward Gallery and Arter Contemporary Art Museum. Her creative themes transcend historical and ideological spheres, playfully exploring relationships between culture contexts, traditions and territories, and her multi-media works were shortlisted for the Documenta 14 in Kassel and the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017.

Leaning Wall is an interactive installation consisting of Masonite ceramics printed with different body parts such as elbows, knees or chins. By inviting viewers to approach the similarities in human appearance, the artist proposes an exploration of the erosion of individual identity. The work has been exhibited in Istanbul, Zurich and Berlin, and was presented as a permanent installation at the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin in 2014. The work consists of 360 pieces of Mason Porcelain.

From the early days of the Music Room to video works combining musical instruments and urban landscapes, music has been an integral part of Nevin Aladağ ‘s practice. In Resonator Wind, Aladağ combines multiple instruments into a complex and unified whole that can be played simultaneously by musicians or audience members, with each sound relating to the others. Aladağ combines musical practice and tradition by using creative structures to fuse instruments from different cultural backgrounds. This series of works breaks the dominance of a single resonating body and reimagines the possibilities of form through unexpected combinations, furthering her formal, conceptual and material concerns by combining different instruments into a single object.
