MANGROVEGALLERY is pleased to announce its participation in Art Warsaw Villa Róż 2026, presenting Fetch, a solo project by Yu Hang. In this year’s edition, “Art Warsaw Villa” transforms a former British Embassy into an exhibition site shaped by its layered history, political isolation, and mechanisms of control.
The term “Fetch,” referenced by Jorge Luis Borges, derives from Scottish and Northern European folklore, describing a “living wraith”—an apparition of a person appearing while still alive. Both an omen of fate and the cold gaze of an “other self,” it evokes dark imagery of self-division and duality. Drawing from this, Yu Hang unfolds a visual exploration of essence and void, constructing a sensorial realm suspended between reality and illusion—a cosmic body twisting like a serpent scaled with stars. Within this vast panorama, a soul seeking to realize its essence must ultimately confront another self—one that endures the torment of illusion through long, endless nights.
Yu Hang grounds his painting practice in sensibility, where the act of viewing becomes a site of encounter with the self. Reality and apparition briefly converge within the visual field. This nineteenth-century palace, having witnessed the vicissitudes of history, serves as an ideal vessel for Fetch, where historical architecture and contemporary painting intersect as if a living spirit were momentarily manifest. The self that seeks its essence and the other that bears the void confront and entwine within the image, so that viewers may also encounter—however faintly—their own double.
