From June 14 to August 14 2025, Song Art Museum presents Becoming Li Binyuan, a major solo exhibition by artist Li Binyuan. Curated by Cui Cancan, the exhibition showcases nearly seventy representative works including performance, video, photography, sculpture, and painting, tracing almost eighteen years of the artist’s creative practice.
This is Li Binyuan’s most extensive solo exhibition to date and serves as a significant mid-career survey. Using the body, site, and time as core materials, the artist continuously reshapes and redefines the image and boundaries of the self. Centred around the concept of “becoming,” the exhibition highlights Li’s ongoing engagement with questions of identity, selfhood, and social experience across different contexts and moments. From early performances in urban public spaces to long-term projects rooted in his hometown at Lanshan, Li has consistently used the body as a tool to explore the intersection between art and reality.
Becoming Li Binyuan not only reflects key moments in the artist’s practice but also charts his evolving artistic language and personal narratives, revealing an increasingly distinct and independent position within the contemporary art landscape. When “becoming” is not a state of completion but a continuous unfolding—an open process through which the artist’s image is endlessly transformed, imagined, and reimagined.
