MANGROVEGALLERY is pleased to announce A Few Vignettes, a solo exhibition by Jiang Zhilong, opening on September 13. The exhibition brings together the artist’s past and recent works, and will be on view through October 25.
Everything begins with the smallest of details. To linger on “a few vignettes” is to return to those fleeting fragments of everyday life that so often go unnoticed. Jiang Zhilong turns his gaze toward the quiet corners of towns and villages, rendering tiled rooftops, fields, children, trees, and other ordinary motifs with strokes that are succinct yet grounded in lived experience. Within the intimate scale of these canvases, a distinct rhythm unfolds. His palette is at once luminous and grounded, settling like light and shadow accumulated over time. Colours interact with steadiness yet never heaviness, vivid yet never jarring. Through these tonal encounters, forms stand firmly within the pictorial space, radiating a vitality that feels both fresh and unadorned.
