MANGROVEGALLERY is pleased to announce Hong Kong Qi, a group exhibition of works by emerging Hong Kong artists, opening on September 14, 2024. Curated by independent curator Chris Wan Feng, the exhibition features six outstanding young artists, including Shawn Pakhin Tang, Joseph Leung Mong Sum, Man Mei To, Jennifer Yue Yuen Yu, Zheng Tianyi, and Mark Chung. Their artistic practices, which all began in Hong Kong, have evolved into unique personal styles and creative expressions shaped by their experiences of studying and living abroad. The exhibition presents their latest works from recent years, with most of which being shown in Mainland China for the first time.

Inspired by the phrase “Hong Kong Qi”, a term with layered meanings that the curator encountered on the streets of Hong Kong, the exhibition transforms the two floors of Mangrove Gallery into a dynamic, performative space. “Qi” serves as a connecting force, linking the flow of meaning and dialogue among the artworks. It weaves disparate symbols into a readable, cohesive narrative, guiding the audience to reimagine Hong Kong through the embodied experiences and sensory fragments found within the works, and to resonate with a broader experience of fluid modernity.

The exhibition will be on view until October 26, 2024.
