April 9th, 2025

Hou Yijie participated in the group exhibition SPRING SHOW - Drawings - at WAITINGROOM, a contemporary art gallery in Tokyo, holds from 9 April to 25 May, 2025. The exhibition features works by four artists—Ayuka Tsuchitori, Taichi Nakamura, Ryota Nojima, and Hou Yijie—each presenting a unique approach to the drawing medium.
For this show, Hou presented six new works that have never shown in Japan before. Using watercolor, acrylic, pencil, and pigment powder, his paintings merge martial arts-inspired imagery with a contemplative, introspective tone. Through these layered visual languages, Hou explores the tension between movement and stillness, tradition and modernity, inviting viewers to engage with drawing as a space of both action and reflection.
The exhibition challenges the notion of drawings as merely preparatory works, emphasizing instead their capacity to capture transient emotions and perceptions. By showcasing the fluidity and immediacy of each artist's mark-making, the show proposes a renewed understanding of drawing’s role in everyday observation and expression.
Date:9 April 2025 - 25 May 2025
Location:Nagashima Bldg. 1F, 2-14-2 Suido, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, Japan
