The Mangrove Gallery is pleased to present the works by Daniel Knorr, as the opening exhibition which specially presented the latest series “Canvas Sculptures”. Derived from the "Depression Elevation" series, the new works imposes a new dimension in the practice of painting. In the way of working where the color is elevated from the canvas, which folds, wipes, and deforms the images that creates a reaction towards a modernist painting. The series of "Canvas Sculpture" liberates the form and ideas of painting from the canvas, reconstructs the present in history and art history through the spatial relationship between sculpture and comprehensive.
Daniel Knorr (b. 1968, Bucharest) is a Berlin-based Romanian artist, lives and works between Berlin and Hong Kong. In 2005, Daniel Knorr represented his home country Romania at the 51st Venice Biennale with his work European Influenze. In 2017, Knorr’s Expiration Movement (2017), an installation work for Documenta 14 held in Kassel, Germany.
